Here are some quick tips on getting shiny fun hair with a polished salon look.
With the right products and techniques, you can easily duplicate this effect at home:
After shampooing, apply Bumble and Bumble Styling Lotion – a great product which is sprayed to the roots to add lift.
Next, apply Kerastase Nectar Thermique, using a dab the size of a quarter and spread all over the hair. This is used to protect the hair from the blow dryer heat and a must if you use the flat iron.
Use a ceramic dryer to dry and style your hair, moving your hands in a circular motion to lift and give the volume and the movement needed.
My recommendation for anyone professional or at home is the CHI PRO Hair dryer. Important to remember to keep the nozzle on! This allows for faster drying – and it also adds shine, giving the salon blow dry look you want.
The best finishing product for this cut is Kerastase Vinyle Nutri Sculpt. This gives your hair the separated look with lots of shine. Rub a small peas size amount into your hands, then start gently fingering through the back of your hair working your way to the front, lifting and seperating as you go.

Looking to have that summer glow without damaging your skin? Bronzers easily offer a way to be both sunkissed and safe.
Types: Bronzers are available in shimmers, flat, pearls, creamy sticks, powder and gels. For a soft and glowy effect as if you were sitting under candlelight – choose a shimmer bronzer. If you have dry skin – choose a creamy stick bronzer. If you like to keep a natural skin look – choose a flat, powder bronzer.
Colors: Bronzers come in a wide range of colors. Look at the undertones in your skins to pick the color best for you. If you commonly have redness – choose a bronzer with more brown rose undertones. If your skin has gold undertones – choose a brownish gold one. Warning: Stay away from cosmetics that have orange undertones – these look good on very few people.
Application: Use a large brush and dip it into the powder. Place the brush only on the spots where the sun hits your face: Top of the forehead, cheekbones, tip of the nose and chin. Blend well.
Great products we recommend:
$$$ – Bobbi Brown has a variety of bronzers and a trained staff to help you make the right choice for your skin. Found at Nordstroms, Saks, and Neiman Marcus.
$ – Physicians Formula also offers a wide variety of bronzers that will not hurt your pocketbook. Found at Target, Walgreens, CVS and most major drugstores.
The french braid can be formal or casual and is great for both day and evening looks. If you are not able to braid your own hair, buy a hair piece to match your hair color and pre-braid it. Place it in your bang or around a low bun for instant fashion.
Summer is here and that means our makeup is put to the test. Here are a few tips we have learned when dealing with summer, heat and makeup:
1. Always start with clean moisturized skin.
2. Use an oil free foundation with an spf. Loreal makes a wonderful base in the True Match® line. The concealer, foundation and powder are all matched by corresponding numbers.
3. Use a gel blush that can double as a lip color – the pigment is strong and won’t wear off in the heat. Our favorite is Smashbox O Glow®; it comes out of the tube clear and once it touches your cheek it turns your perfect color of pink! It does the same for the lips as well.
4. For the eyes use a cream eyeshadow and a gel waterproof eyeliner. MAC and Bobbi Brown both have wonderful waterproof cosmetics.
5. Don’t forget to curl your eyelashes and use a waterproof mascara such as Covergirl Prolash® in black-black.
6. Remember summer is all about bare skin so use cosmetics sparingly and with a light hand.
